Dedication

The second edition of my first book has been released: “Multi-cloud Strategy for Cloud Architects”. I’m so very proud of this one! In this second edition I also included other emerging clouds, next to the leading ones Azure, AWS and GCP. You will also find content about Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Alibaba Cloud. Next to that, the sections about DevSecOps and FinOps have been extended.

But there’s one thing I would like to point out.

There’s a dedication in my latest book. That dedication is important to me. I dedicated it to my wife, Eckart Wintzen and Wubbo Ockels. Let me explain why.

Obviously, number one is my wife. Full stop. Just for being with me for 25 years, supporting me in (almost) everything. In sickness and in health. You know the drill. She’s everything to me.

Then, Eckart. Founder of BSO Origin (the predecessor of Atos Origin and eventually AtoS), creator of a business model with “cells”. Micro-enterprises before they were called micro-enterprises. Later he became an investor in sustainability projects with Ex’tent (Eckart’s tent), participating in Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, the Carbon Disclosure Project and Earth Policy Institute. Wintzen passed away in 2008 after a cardiac arrest.

Wubbo Ockels was the first Dutch astronaut and pioneer in sustainability. “We’re all astronauts on spaceship Earth.” Ockels spent a large deal of his life in driving sustainable innovations, including the Ecolution: a sailing yacht that could preserve its own energy by storing it in batteries so it would never have to use its engines (only in cases of emergency). That ship still sails and is maintained by the WadDuurzaam Foundation. In the meantime, the emergency diesel engines have been replaced by hydrogen cells.

Wubbo passed away in 2014, losing his fight against cancer.

Why these two men? I have spent the larger part of my career so far in helping businesses grow and become more efficient. In the past years I realized more and more that there are things that are more important. Health. And preserving our only planet.

Now you know why the book is dedicated to Eckart and Wubbo.

The book is available on Amazon and Bol.com.

Change is the business workout

Digital transformation is about technology. It’s probably the first mistake enterprises make when they start thinking about digital transformation. No: digital transformation is about change.
