Jeroen was born in the village of Emmer-Compascuum, a small village near Emmen… a small city near Groningen. We then write the year 1970. It was a Sunday, the fifteenth of November. Ajax was in second place under Feijenoord, which drew 1-1 against Sparta that Sunday. “To My Father’s House” by the Les Humphries Singers was at number one in the Top 40, followed by The Cats and at three “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath. Nixon was president of the US. It was quiet in Emmer-Compascuum.

After a relatively quiet childhood, he went to study journalism in Zwolle. He also practiced this profession for quite some time at various news papers and Reed Business magazines. At that company he came into contact with the internet. Jeroen became proficient in programming websites and immersed himself in the possibilities of making content digitally available. That was in 1999, the year in which anyone who could spell the word ‘in-ter-net’ flawlessly started working for an IT company of his or her choice. Jeroen chose Origin. Why? Because the late Eckart Wintzen was then – and still is – one of his heroes.

This is the AtoS period. Or more accurate: Jeroen started at Origin, that transitioned into Atos Origin when the French took over the Philips IT-daughter. Eventually the company transitioned into AtoS, after the merger between Atos Origin and Siemens IT. Jeroen fulfilled different roles in this periode. Highlights are the outsourcing project and datacenter moves for Schlumberger Oilfield Services where he was responsible for the transitioning of 200+ applications. From 2014 onwards he spent a number of years in Scandinavia, mostly in Finland where he was lead architect for major transition projects for meat company HKScan and the European Chemical Agency (ECHA).

The pandemic hit. Where Jeroen used to travel a lot he now found himself working from home, leaving him with a great deal of ’non-traveling’ time. That time was now used to start writing his first book that was published in November of 2020: Multi-Cloud Architecture and Governance.

In June 2021 Jeroen joined Philips as principal cloud solutions architect for Precision Diagnosis. It has been a long term ambition to join a leading company in the space of health technology. Since AWS is the preferred cloud for Philips, Jeroen reckoned it would be good to become certified in AWS as well. And so he did. Besides he kept writing. In December 2021 the second book was released: Enterprise DevOps for Architects.
